How did I know Maia?
We bathed together in a bucket (literally in a bucket! I have photo proof.) when we first met after scuba diving in Fulong, Taiwan.
I'm 100% following Maia's footsteps when it comes to traveling & backpacking. I see her as my mentor and my sister.

Maia?

A Conversation with Maia
  • What would you say to the younger Maia?
    Maia: “ T
he more i know the more I know I don't know. Spend more time in school, at the university. I wasn't open-minded and curious enough to acquire as much knowledge as I could.  Nowadays, when I try to learn new information, it is not as efficient as it used to be. And it certainly takes more effort and energy."

  • What was your dream job as a kid and why?
Maia: "A doctor. But I realized that I couldn't handle blood. I thought about being a musician because I played flute and
    saxophone. "

  • What’s the biggest challenge you’ve overcome in your career/life journey?
Maia: “I finally can disregard how others value me.”
    Maia:「

  • What is the key lesson you've learned in your career?
Maia: "Everyone should LIVE their life. Everyone should do and try to find where their passion lies and thrive. In the short term, yes, the passion may not feed you. But in the long run, you have to find a way to combine your passion with your work. If you don't focus so much about money and only money, then it will go smoother than you think."

  • What do you think is the most significant barrier to female leadership?
Maia: " I think Taiwan is a society that has more gender equality. If you look into our government and enterprises, many leaders who are female. I think at this point, we are doing better than many western countries. Taiwan, however, generally speaking, regards the female as a caretaker in a family matter."

  • Now you have a license for Tour Guide, WSET Level 3 certified, a law degree, and experience in managing a restaurant chain,
what do you plan to do with all of these qualifications?

Maia: " I would like to combine tourism with gastronomy providing a none conventional travel experience. And also a cultural experience. I'd like to not only to show foreigners Taiwan but also bring Taiwanese abroad. For example, bring people to wine vinery and to Ibiza to have the "VIP" yacht experience."

  • Maia: "Experience the local life. For all my life when I travel, I never focus on sightseeing. I like to feel the community and learn the language. Travel has widened my horizon. People around the world live in a different lifestyle. I've seen the pros and cons. They are my references to my own culture and they provide a different point of views so I can improve myself."

A Must-Do for First Timer in Taipei
Maia: "Stay for at least 12-14 days in Taiwan. I would say min. 1 month if you could. I usually don't take a trip shorter than one month because you would only see a rough profile of a city."

Din Tai Fung
Maia: "I really don't wanna say this because it is so touristy (we do eat there but not often) but it has almost got everything you need to eat here!
Reasonable price and good taste."
