Duration: 3-4 Nights.
Singapore was like a second to me when growing up. For my four month solo traveling, I've decided to choose Singapore as a hub. If you are flying from Canada/US to South East Asia, I highly recommend you to book your trip to Singapore first for 4 days 3 nights and then book the local airline from Singapore after. This way, you can catch up with the jet lag and enjoy this super UPBEAT city. (see my article for local airline.)

House keeping
Bear in mind that do not ever chew gum in Singapore! It is a serious ban!
Weather: Always summer 24c - 34c with humidity.
Is it safe? 200% I honestly cannot think any other city that is safer than Singapore on the Earth. It's like you can walk on the street at 3 am or 4am and not worry about anything (AT ALL).
Wifi and cell services: At the airport, they sell 100GB prepaid for SGD $15 for 7 days. And approx SGD $25 you can get with a metro pass as well. Buy the metro pass combo if you plan to take the subway during your time in Singapore. This can saves you time from lining up buying the single metro ticket every time! (I didn't buy the data if you are wondering, I just used the hotel wifi and some public wifi.)
Transportation Driver is on the right ride. 右駕
Best Transport: The MRT & LRT (the Singaporean Subway) go EVERYWHERE. It is clean safe, and fast! Price for a single trip is approx. $SGD 2.
If you're traveling with a family of 4 or more, then take the taxi!
Bus: I've never taken bus in Singapore since the subway goes everywhere.
Grab: This is the Singaporean version of Uber. With Grab, you can pay with cash.
Taxi: The taxi here is pretty fair, charged by the meter. There's many different colours of taxi, they are pretty much the same except for the white fancy ones. From airport to Nevena (downtown) is about 15 minutes for $SGD 25. (HOWEVER, be aware of the white fancy taxi, they will tell you they charge the same, but NO, they are limos, they are $12 more expansive in my experience!!)

Must do/see in Singapore
- Cultural/Landmark: Chinatown, Little India, Merlion,
- Shopping: Orchid Road, Marina Bay Sands, Vivo City
- Playground: Universal Studio, Sentosa, Legoland (Malaysia)
- JEWEL: The famous waterfall BY the airport. (Remember it is NOT in the airport, it is located BY the airport, outside the immigration.) Either visit the waterfall right after you collect your luggages after landing or come to the airport early before you head to immigration. If you have a layover, do it too! Singapore airport is massive, T3 has the most shops and the foodcourt offers all the street food on 2F if you missed any during your stay!
Hotels in Singapore
Singapore might just be the most expansive city to stay in Asia even though there are bazillions hotels in Singapore.
- Courtyard by Marriott Singapore $$$-$$$$ Roughly around $270/night located right besides Nevena Station which is just two stops from Orchard Station (Singapore shopping belt) The hotel is more or less like a boutique hotel which is not as crowded as Mariana Bay Sands and there's an infinity pool at the top overlooks Singapore. Great for a solo traveler and couples.
- InterContinental® Singapore $$$-$$$$ Roughly around $320/night located right in the cultural district in downtown Singapore. An elegant European five stars hotel. Great for a family with kids.
- The Fullerton Bay Hotel $$$$$ Roughly around $600/night Sitting right across from Marina Bay Sands in the downtown core. Gives you a full view of Singapore and the bay area.
Best Restaurants in Singapore
Must Eat Lunch in Singapore: don't tell me you've been to Singapore without having at least two plates of the Hainan chicken rice. Seriously.
- Fitra Hainanese Chicken Rice $ SGD $5~7.5
You will find Hainan Chicken Rice everywhere. Make sure you pick the steam drum stick not the roasted one!! The rice is far different from the normal steam rice. Personally, i found my own FAV chicken rice spot at Fitra Hainanese Chicken Rice, located in Food Republic, Wisma Atria on Orchard Rd. The chicken is SUPER tender and juicy, make sure you add the soya sauce yourself!!! - Hawker Centres (aka food courts) $
Guarantee you will find all the must try Singaporean dishes here. There are lots of hawker centres across Singapore! Despite the cheap prices (from S$2.50 to S$5.00), it is GOOD quality food. During lunch hours, you will find the food courts full of locals. Highly recommend to visit one during your visit.- Maxwell Road Hawker Centres come for lunch after your visit to China Town. Try the famous Tian Tian Chicken Rice (even tho my fav still the one above but still, swing by and enjoy!)
- Telok Ayer Market
Must Eat Dinner in Singapore:
- JUMBO Seafood $$-$$$ Your trip is not completed without having the famous chilli crab . Must order: Chilli Crab, Fried Bun, Jelly Fish. ***Remember to make a reservation online or you really risk not getting a seat or waiting for hours...***
- Best Buffet: RISE Marina Bay Sands $$$-$$$$
If you are a bit posh, a lobster and sashimi lover and would also like to enjoy top quality Singaporean dishes, RISE would be THE place for you.
Grab a free Sands Reward card before your dinner at the front desk. The card offers discount to most shops and restos in Marina Bay Sands and cash back to your next purchase!! (Make sure you bring your passport to apply for the card and head up to the bar LAVO after dinner to enjoy the perks!) - Burn End

Alcohol is quite pricy in Singapore generally speaking. One cocktail minimum $15~25
- Caffe Fernet $$-$$$ the hotel sites right across the river from Marina Bay Sands, come down here for your first drink, and head towards the Merlion Park, on the way to the Merlion, you will find lots of bars along the street. This spot allow you to capture the full view of the Marina Bay Sands.
